Change Palworld world settings: XP rate, Global Palbox, and more

Most Palworld game rules, such as the XP rate and Global Palbox transfer, are not on the Startup page. They live in one file, PalWorldSettings.ini. To change them, stop your server, edit that file in Files, save it, and start the server again.

The settings you see on Startup (server name, passwords, max players, description, and platform) are covered in Palworld settings. This page covers everything else.

  1. Take a backup. See Backups.
  2. Press Stop and wait until the status says Offline. Do not use Kill, because the server saves when it stops cleanly.

Edit the file only while the server is fully stopped. If you edit it while the server is running, your changes can be lost.

  1. Open Files in the left menu.
  2. Go to Pal/Saved/Config/ and open the folder named for your platform: LinuxServer on a native Linux server, or WindowsServer on a Proton one. Open PalWorldSettings.ini in it.
  3. The file has a header line, then one long line that starts with OptionSettings=(. Every setting is inside that one line, as Name=value, separated by commas.
  4. Find the setting you want and change only the value after the =.
  5. Save the file, then press Start.
  6. Once the server is online, open the file again and check that your change is still there.

Keep these rules so the line stays valid:

  • Keep everything on one line. Do not add line breaks.
  • Leave the commas, the brackets, and the setting names exactly as they are.
  • Keep the same style of value that is already there. On/off settings are True or False with a capital first letter. A number with a decimal point, such as 2.000000, stays a decimal. A whole number, such as 128, stays a whole number. A value in quotes stays in quotes, and a value without quotes, such as Item, stays without them.

A typo in this line can make the game ignore your changes, so change one or two settings at a time and check the result.

These settings are in the file on your server. The values in the Default column are what a new server starts with. A game update can change them.

The full list of settings, with more descriptions, is in the official Palworld server configuration guide.

Find ExpRate=1.000000 and change it to ExpRate=2.000000.

Allow players to load Pals from the Global Palbox

Section titled “Allow players to load Pals from the Global Palbox”

Find bAllowGlobalPalboxImport=False and change it to bAllowGlobalPalboxImport=True. Saving to the Global Palbox is controlled by bAllowGlobalPalboxExport, which is already True. Set it to False if you want to stop players from saving Pals there.

Each time your server starts, the panel writes some values into PalWorldSettings.ini: the server name, the passwords, the port, the public address, and whether RCON is on. If you change those in the file, they are put back on the next start. Change them on Startup instead. See Palworld settings.

  1. Make sure the server was fully stopped when you saved the file, not just stopping.
  2. Open the file and look at the OptionSettings=( line. It must be one line, with commas between settings and no stray characters.
  3. If you edited the line by hand and it will not start, restore your backup of the file. See Backups.
  4. If your world was created before you changed a setting and the setting seems to have no effect, open a ticket and tell us the setting name and the value you set. See Contact support.
