Space Engineers server settings and options

A dedicated Space Engineers server, in a Vanilla or Torch (plugins) edition.

  1. Press Start and wait until the Console shows Game ready....
  2. Find your address and ports on the Network page. See Network and ports.
  3. In the game, use direct connect with the address and the game port.

If players cannot reach your server, open a ticket and we will check the ports. See Contact support.

These are the settings shown on your Startup page. Name, description, and the Remote API switch are applied to your server every time it starts.

Setting Variable What it does Default
Server Name SERVER_NAME The name shown in the server list, up to 64 characters. A Pterodactyl hosted Space Engineer Server
Server Description SERVER_DESC A description, up to 200 characters. A Pterodactyl hosted Space Engineer Server
Remote API REMOTEAPI_ENABLE true or false. Leave this off unless you know you need it: it opens an API on the Remote API port. false
World Name WORLD_NAME The world folder name, up to 20 characters. It is set for you and cannot be changed on the Startup page. World

The Steam Port (STEAM_PORT) and Remote API Port (REMOTEAPI_PORT) are assigned automatically. Do not change them.

Vanilla edition only: Automatic Updates (AUTO_UPDATE) is 1 to update on start. With 0, the server can fall behind the game and players on the current version cannot join.

  1. Stop your server.
  2. Open Startup in the left menu and find the setting under Server Variables.
  3. Change the value, save, and start your server.

See Startup settings.

Game mode, player limit, and other world options

Section titled “Game mode, player limit, and other world options”

The Startup page also lists Game Mode, Maximum Players, Enable Saving, Auto Save Interval and, on Vanilla, Experimental Mode and In-Game Scripts. On OmneHosting these do not change a world that already exists: the world’s own settings take priority over them. To change them:

  1. Stop your server.
  2. Open Files and go to the world folder: config/Saves/World/ on Vanilla, Instance/Saves/World/ on Torch. See Upload and manage files.
  3. Back up the file, then edit the matching value in Sandbox_config.sbc (the world options also appear in Sandbox.sbc).
  4. Save and start your server.

If you are not sure which value to change, open a ticket and we will help. See Contact support.

Each time your server starts, the panel writes the name, description, ports, and Remote API settings into the server’s config file:

Edition File
Vanilla config/SpaceEngineers-Dedicated.cfg
Torch Instance/SpaceEngineers-Dedicated.cfg

If a value you set in that file keeps changing back, that is why. Change it with the settings above, or open a ticket. The world files (Sandbox.sbc and Sandbox_config.sbc) are not rewritten by the panel’s startup settings.

The server loads a bundled base world. Only that bundled world is supported, so bringing in an existing world is not supported yet. Open a ticket if you need to move a world. See Contact support.

You can add Steam Workshop mods from the Mods page. See Add mods to your Space Engineers server.

Open a ticket or ask on Discord. See Contact support.
