Set up your TeamSpeak 3 server

Your TeamSpeak 3 server is ready to use after a short first start. This guide is based on a real OmneHosting TeamSpeak server.

What to expect

  • The first start is quick. The server was ready about a second after the container started.
  • It uses very little memory when idle (about 11 MB in our test).
  • On a brand-new server, the panel first downloads the runtime image, so the very first start can take longer.

Start the server and connect

  1. Press Start in the power bar and wait for Online.
  2. Find your address and port on the Network page. See Network and ports.
  3. In the TeamSpeak 3 client, open Connections, then Connect, and enter the address, followed by a colon and your port, for example address:port.

Voice runs on the port assigned to your server. The console shows it: listening on 0.0.0.0:<your port>.

Get your admin (privilege) key

The first time the server starts, the Console prints a line like this:

  1. Open Console right after the first start and copy the key after token=.
  2. In the TeamSpeak client, open Permissions, then Use Privilege Key, and paste it.

You become the server admin. Keep the key private. If you missed it, you can find it again in the console history, or open a ticket.

The console also prints a Server Query Admin Account block with the login name serveradmin and a password. The password is whatever the SERVERADMIN_PASSWORD setting on the Startup page is set to. It is blank by default.

Slots and license

The server starts with TeamSpeak’s default license. The console shows type: No License, max virtualservers: 1, and max slots: 32. Our TeamSpeak plan has up to 32 slots. If you need more, open a ticket and tell us how many you need. See Contact support.

Ports

Section titled “Ports”

TeamSpeak also uses extra ports for file transfer (30033 by default) and for query connections. These run inside the server, but only the port assigned to your server is reachable from outside. Voice chat works on your assigned port. Features that need the file-transfer port, such as icons and avatar uploads, may not work unless that port is also assigned to your server. If you need them, open a ticket.
