Console and power problems

This page covers the Console page and the Start, Restart and Stop buttons. See Console for the basics.

Failed to connect to websocket instance after multiple attempts

Section titled “Failed to connect to websocket instance after multiple attempts”
Failed to connect to websocket instance after multiple attempts: try refreshing the page.

Why it happens: Your browser could not open the live connection to the server. Common causes are an ad blocker or privacy extension, a network or proxy blocking it, or the server node being briefly unavailable.

How to fix it:

  1. Refresh the page.
  2. Turn off ad blockers and privacy extensions for panel.omnehosting.com, or use a private window.
  3. Try another browser, or another network such as a phone hotspot.
  4. If it fails everywhere, open a ticket.

Why it happens: The live connection is not up yet, or a browser extension is interfering.

How to fix it:

  1. Wait a few seconds and refresh.
  2. Use a private window with extensions off.
  3. If the server is Offline, the console may show little until you start it.

Why it happens: Subusers need the control console permission to send commands. Also, the server must be running.

How to fix it:

  1. Ask the owner to give you the console permission. See Users.
  2. Make sure the status is Online.

My commands are ignored while the server is starting

Section titled “My commands are ignored while the server is starting”

Why it happens: The game is not ready to accept commands until it has finished loading.

How to fix it:

  1. Wait for the game’s “ready” or “done” line in the console, then try again.

Why it happens: The server is already starting or running, is installing, restoring a backup, suspended, or you lack the power permission.

How to fix it:

  1. Check the status and any banner at the top of the page.
  2. Wait if it is installing or restoring.
  3. As a subuser, ask the owner for the start permission.

The Stop button does not stop the server, or it is stuck on Stopping

Section titled “The Stop button does not stop the server, or it is stuck on Stopping”

Why it happens: Stop asks the game to shut down cleanly and save. Some games take a while, or hang while saving.

How to fix it:

  1. Give it some time, especially on big worlds.
  2. When the status is Stopping, the Stop button turns into Kill. Kill ends the process at once.
  3. Warning: Kill can lose recent progress or corrupt data. Use it only if waiting does not help.

Why it happens: The game is still loading, or it is hung. Big modpacks and large worlds can take several minutes.

How to fix it:

  1. Watch the Console. If lines are still appearing, it is loading.
  2. If nothing has appeared for a long time, use Stop, then Kill if needed, and start again.
  3. Look for errors in the log. See Startup, version and software-switch problems.

I pressed Start and it went straight back to Offline

Section titled “I pressed Start and it went straight back to Offline”

Why it happens: The game process exited right away, often because of a config error, a wrong Java or software setting, no memory, or a full disk.

How to fix it:

  1. Read the last lines in the Console for the error.
  2. Look for “Exit code” and “Out of memory” lines. See Out of memory.
  3. See Disk full if you see a disk message such as “Server is exceeding the assigned disk space limit, stopping process now.”
  4. If you edited files or the startup command recently, undo that change. See Startup, version and software-switch problems.

Why it happens: Crash detection restarts a stopped game. If it crashes again within 60 seconds, the panel gives up with this line:

Aborting automatic restart, last crash occurred less than 60 seconds ago

How to fix it:

  1. Read the Console for what crashed the game.
  2. See Server keeps restarting.
  3. Fix the cause (a bad plugin, mod, config, or lack of memory), then start again.

Why it happens: The panel limits how fast console lines are shown, so a burst of output can be cut. Only a few recent lines show when you first open the page.

How to fix it:

  1. Open the log files in the Files page to see everything, for example the latest log.
  2. Reduce very noisy logging in the game or plugins.

The console shows strange characters instead of colors

Section titled “The console shows strange characters instead of colors”

Why it happens: The game prints color codes that the console shows as text.

How to fix it:

  1. This is cosmetic. The game still works.
  2. Some games have a setting to turn off colored console output.

Why it happens: Ad blockers, VPN extensions and privacy tools can block the live connection.

How to fix it:

  1. Try a private window, or turn extensions off for the panel.

The status is wrong after I reload the page

Section titled “The status is wrong after I reload the page”

Why it happens: The panel updates the state through the live connection. If it is not connected yet, it may briefly show an old state.

How to fix it:

  1. Wait a few seconds after the page loads.
  2. Refresh again if it still looks wrong.

The power buttons are missing for a subuser

Section titled “The power buttons are missing for a subuser”

Why it happens: Subusers only see buttons they have permission for (start, stop, restart).

How to fix it:

  1. Ask the owner to update your permissions. See Users.

“This server is currently running its installation process and most actions are unavailable.”

Section titled ““This server is currently running its installation process and most actions are unavailable.””

Why it happens: The server is installing, or reinstalling after you changed something.

How to fix it:

  1. Wait a few minutes and refresh.
  2. If it never finishes, see Startup, version and software-switch problems, or open a ticket.

“This server is currently suspended and the functionality requested is unavailable.”

Section titled ““This server is currently suspended and the functionality requested is unavailable.””

Why it happens: The server has been suspended, for example because an invoice was not paid.

How to fix it:

  1. Check your invoices in the client area. See Renewals.
  2. If you do not know why, open a ticket.

Open a ticket or ask on Discord. See Contact support. Copy the last lines from the Console into the ticket.
